Alpha 3000 – Sony’s first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera

Sony ILCE-3000 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera and lenses

Sony has announced today the upcoming release of the Alpha 3000 (also called by Sony the ILCE-3000), it’s first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera in a DSLR-like case.

Why the move into this area by Sony?  Says Ervin Quek, Marketing Manager for Digital Imaging at Sony Australia:

“We’ve noticed photography newcomers are often daunted by the complex settings found in traditional DSLR products. The 3000 user interface has been inspired by our easy to use NEX range of cameras.

“Many key DSLR features have been added, including a Multi Interface Shoe and viewfinder. However, to minimise total size and weight the 3000 is designed to work with existing E-Mount lenses from our NEX family of products.”

Mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras offer much of the power and flexibility of a DSLR camera, with a significant reduction in bulk. The Alpha 3000 measures 128mm x 90.9mm x 84.5mm, and is a 20.1-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor camera, compatible with Sony’s E-mount range of lenses. Photographers can frame their shots using the 7.5c m (3.0-type) wide type TFT screen, or the electronic viewfinder.

In-camera picture effects include Posterization (Color, B/W), Pop Color, Retro Photo, Partial Color (R,G,B,Y), High Contrast Mono, Toy Camera, Soft High-Key, Soft Focus, HDR Painting, Rich-tone Mono, and Miniature.
