Canon Powershot SX30 digital camera

It’s a busy time in the digital camera world right now. Canon have announced tonight the addition of the Powershot SX30 IS point-and-shoot digital camera to their range.

The S30 IS is a 14.1 megapixel camera, and sports a massive 35x optical zoom, 24mm wide-angle lens, improved image stabilisation, and will shoot HD video. Its ‘Miniature effect’ will be a fun feature to use, which apparently mimics that tilt-shift style of video you might have seen, in which the background and foreground of shots are blurred, and the objects in mid-ground appear to be in miniature. I’m looking forward to seeing how well it mimics what is a very cool effect.

Main features

  • Super telephoto with 35x zoom (24mm to 840mm)
  • 24mm wide-angle lens
  • Improved Optical Image Stabilizer
  • High Definition (1280 x 720) movie recording with stereo sound and miniature effect mode
  • 2.7-inch vari-angle screen
  • 14.1 megapixels
  • DiG!C 4 Image Processor
  • Li-ION rechargeable battery

Canon Powershot SX30 release date and price

I’m afraid the only detail know here is a release date of ‘October’ – no price, just that hated ‘TBC’. October’s pretty close, you’d expect the price would be known by now, but no, apparently not. Stay tuned.
