Back in mid-2011 I wrote about the Artefact Camera Futura design concept. Sony digital camera rumours website sonyalpharumors has it marked as an ‘almost certainly correct!’ rumour that Sony is about to launch something just like the Futura.
The rumour has it that two lens cameras will be available, named the DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100. Both are built to magnetically attach to either an iPhone or Android smartphone. Each will have an SD card to store images, and will be controlled by the phone either by Wi-Fi or NFC.
The DSC-QX100 lens camera will have a 20.2-megapixel, 1-inch sensor and Zeiss glass, while the DSC-QX10 will be house a 18 megapixel CMOS sensor, with 10x zoom. In addition the the aforementioned SD card and Wi-Fi or NFC connectivity is image stabilisation and a Bionz processor.
There’s no solid word on price or release date as yet, but with this, and the upcoming Nokia 1020 smartphone with a 41 megapixel camera, mobile phone photography is about to get interesting. And better.
UPDATE – 5 September 2013
Sony overnight officially announced the Cyber-shot DSC-QX100 and DSCQX10 lens-style cameras. The gold and white colour hasn’t appeared, instead only the black colour has been shown.

- DSC-QX10 – $279 RRP
- DSC-QX100 – $599 RRP
The Cyber-shot DSC-QX100 and DSCQX10 will go on sale in mid-October.
