Not only did B&O Play officially announce the BeoPlay V1, the LCD TV details of which leaked last week, it also took the wraps off the BeoPlay A3 sound system, made to accommodate and improve, the Apple iPad.

So essentially, the B&O Play A3 is an iPad case, with inbuilt speakers that enhance the iPad’s sound. It’s wedge-shaped, weighs around 1.5 kilograms and is made of black protective PC ABS plastic with an aluminium frame. Inside the frame is a Class D amplifier, and 3 x ½ inch tweeters, and a 2 inch’ woofer, an effective frequency range of 60 – 15,000 Hz.

It’s a 2.1 sound system, though adding up the speakers mentioned above, there’s four speakers inside the B&O Play A3. Only three are in play at any one time, depending upon whether the iPad’s screen is in landscape or portrait mode, the speakers activate accordingly.

The battery inside the A3 will provide up to 5 hours of play. Power consumption is given as “typical 3 W, networked standby: 0.5 W”. Both the iPad and the B&O Play A3 will charge when the charged via the mains.
