As I sit down to write this, there’s a community service ad on TV, telling us that of the bottled water we buy, two-thirds of the water bottles end up as landfill, or drift to places like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
Bobble water bottles are made from recycled materials – FDA-approved PET, free of BPA, Phthalates and PVC – and are themselves recyclable. The filter is made from carbon and recycled plastic.
The Bobble filter removes chlorine and organic contaminants, though keep in mind it is not a miracle worker, the makers say that “it is not recommended for use where water is not microbiologically safe or of unknown quality”. Some Australian water contains added fluoride, and Bobble state that only a slight decrease in the flouride may occur through the actions of the filter. The filters need to be changed every 2 months, or every 150 litres.
The product is designed by Karim Rashid, and is available with a choice of green, red, blue, magenta, black and yellow fittings and filter.
In a world where we can’t seem to leave the house without taking a bottle of water with us, this looks a good choice for health and environment. They also just look good.
