Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee: Series 2

Have you heard about Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee? It’s hosted by Jerry Seinfeld, and you can watch it at Comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com or on the Crackle app. The premise is that Jerry rings a comedian, asks if they’re free for coffee, and drives to their house to pick them up in a car. Not just a car, but a (usually) classic car, tailored to reflect Jerry’s impression of, or how he relates to, the particular coffee companion.

This isn’t laugh-out-loud comedy, it’s gentle humour. It’s a sometimes investigation into the art of being funny, or family stories, or  how and where Jerry met the guests. You get a real sense that there is a genuine affection for the other person from both sides of the cafe table.

Series 1 premiered in June 2012, and series 2 began to be placed online last month. Series 1 highlights: Ricky Gervais, Alec Baldwin, Michael Richards (yes, Kramer), Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks, and Larry David (co-creator of Seinfeld). Series 2 comprises 12 episodes, with the first 6 online now, the next 6 to follow later this year.

The first six comedians in series 2 are Sarah Silverman, Dave Letterman, Gad Elmaleh, Don Rickles, Seth Myer, and Chris Rock. The cars? Oh there are some lovely, lovely old cars – 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series 2, 1995 Volvo 960, 1950 Citroën 2CV, 1958 Cadillac Eldorado, 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS, 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400S (pictured below). A 1995 Volvo I hear you exclaim!? And it’s a station wagon!? It’s no ordinary Volvo station wagon. The car is owned by Dave Letterman, and was built for him by the late Paul Newman’s racing team, complete with a Ford V8 racing engine and supercharger.
