EOS Photo5 2011 competition

The Canon EOS Photo5 2011 photography competition is now open, ready for you to enter your captures, tricks and twists of light, taken with a digital SLR camera. The competition is open for registration to photographers from Australia and New Zealand.

Entrants in the Canon EOS Photo5 2011 competition are given a box containing 5 mystery objects. They are then to creatively use those objects in five individual photographic briefs. You can choose to enter photographs in as many of the briefs as you choose, there are individual prizes for each brief. What the five briefs are will remain a mystery until 19 September, 2011.

If you do decide to enter all five briefs, then you are also eligible for the Portfolio competition. Finally, there is a Open Brief competition. This year the theme for the Open Brief is ‘Through a Pet’s Eyes’. If you miss out on receiving one of the boxes, you can still enter the Open Brief section.

“EOS Photo5 pushes the boundaries of photographic expression, by challenging photographers of all levels to explore their creativity and take their skills to a whole new level,” says Chris Macleod, Brand Manager – EOS, Canon Australia.

“We’re always stunned by the incredibly creative imagery that people from all walks of life produce based on their unique perspectives on the themed briefs contained in the iconic ‘box’. We’ve got five new briefs and we can’t wait to see what creativity this encourages in people. With the right gear, tips and inspiration, everyone has a shot at discovering their untapped creative potential!”

Prizes

The winner of each brief in EOS Photo5 2011 will receive:

  • A Canon EOS 5D Mark II Premium Kit (camera body and EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens)
  • A 3-day creative photography workshop in Queenstown, New Zealand with Jackie Ranken & Mike Langford. Workshop, flights and accommodation are included.

The winner of the Portfolio competition receives the same prize, plus a Canon PIXMA Pro 9500 Mark II professional photo printer and the new Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye lens.

You don’t need to take photos to win. People who vote on EOS Photo5 2011 photos can win a Canon EOS 7D digital SLR camera super kit (camera body plus EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens).

How to enter

The first thing to say, is that places in EOS Photo5 2011 are limited. If you entered an image last year, you will receive automatic entry. If you’ve not entered before, then:

Boxes are limited, so to make sure all entrants who really want one get one, we’ve tweaked the entry process. We’re asking all non-2010 entrants to submit an image for the Open Brief to be eligible for a box. Given their popularity, it’s a good idea to start working on your image now. From September 5 you can upload your Open Brief image and request a box.

The subject for the Open Brief is to “Capture the world as it’s seen through the eyes of an animal. Use any effect of technique you like to capture their point of view, their side of the story”.

Winners are determined by the World of EOS community. Voting starts on 9 November 2011.
