Facebook is… The Blob!

The Facebook button on HTC mobile phones

Along with the announcement of a few smartphones with special Facebook functions, including the HTC Salsa and the HTC ChaCha, Facebook engineer Charles Wu has blogged that 2011 will see Facebook become more ubiquitous. If you accept the premise that this is possible in an already Facebook-saturated world.

On the official Facebook blog, in a post entitled A Better Mobile Experience, Wu wrote:

In addition to these new phones from INQ and HTC, you’ll also be seeing similar deep Facebook integration on dozens of other devices over the course of this year. Some manufacturers will be highlighting Facebook as a part of their phones’ on-screen interfaces, and others will use our brand as an element of the device hardware itself.

We believe almost anything is better when it’s social, and this year we’ll continue to invest in new technologies so you have a great Facebook experience no matter where you go.

Dozens of other devices? No matter where you go? Hopefully we’ll not see the Facebook Bidet anytime soon. Or any Ruby Rhod-style* extreme lifeblogging with the Facebook range of sunglasses.

Of course I’m being facetious here. Facebook continue to state that they do not want to get into the hardware business, nor the porcelain or eyewear business I imagine. This is more to do with mobile handset makers integrating Facebook apps into their operating systems.
