HTC Wildfire S preview

HTC and Telstra are getting together next week to launch the HTC Wildfire S, the follow-up to last year’s budget smartphone, the HTC Wildfire.

Last year the operating system was Android Eclair, this year it’s sweetened a little with Android Gingerbread. Just as last year the screen on the Wildfire S is 3.2 inches, and the camera is 5 megapixel.

Other than that the new phone is a little smaller, a little lighter and with a little more processor grunt. Oddly, the battery on the Wildfire S is smaller, 1230 mAh against the 1300 mAh of the Wildfire. I presume the phone’s power management has improved in the interim.

Telstra will have at least an initial exclusivity on the HTC Wildfire S, with the price and release date to be announced at the May 25 launch. At the same event the HTC Desire S will be launched.
