LG Curved OLED TV – Ewan McGregor swears by it!

LG today showed off its 2013 home entertainment range, along with its new brand ambassador, actor Ewan McGregor. Apart from the Dorian-Gray-like McGregor, and the Sydney Harbour mansion at which the launch was held, the star of the show was the upcoming LG Curved OLED TV.

Prototypes of the LG Curved OLED TV were shown at CES earlier this year, but this was its first reveal in Australia. And the images on the TV are stunning. Or, in the very words of Ewan McGregor today, it is a “fucking good telly”. He dropped the f-bomb a few times, which is I think an indication of how genuine a guy he is, and how genuinely how much he liked the picture quality of the TV.

Specifications are a little thin on the ground with this TV. It has a 55-inch screen, big but not too big in these days of mega TVs, but it is relatively svelte at 4.3 millimetres thin and a weight of 17 kilograms.

“Our Curved OLED TV is not only proof of LG’s role as a pioneer in next-generation displays but also a testament to LG’s commitment to bringing to market the most exciting TV technology available today,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company.

In the last week retailers in South Korea have been able to place pre-orders for the Samsung Curved OLED TV. Stock will arrive in stores there next month. The price there will be KRW15 million, or around $13,000 in Australian dollars. That’s based on today’s conversion rate, and is a guide only. No Australian pricing details have been given, nor an expected local delivery date.
