Mini, the Brit car brand given a second life by BMW, has extended its scope a little with the Mini Scooter E Concept.

There’s three things that are notable about the Mini Scooter E Concept. One, they look good – a 21st Century interpretation of the Swinging London of the 1960s. This is particularly so of the white model, looking like something The Who or Mods would have ridden back in the day.

The Mini Scooter E Concept was first shown in London in October last year. The three designs are electric-powered, run by a lithium ion battery. As a design exercise they work brilliantly on an aesthetic level, and possibly the biggest departure from a scooter you can now buy off the shelf is what is used to be the entertainment, communication and navigation, as well as the ignition key. You’ll see it in the video below, but what the BMW design team use to be the electronic heart of these systems is a smartphone – in the video, it’s an Apple iPhone.
