Panasonic’s 2012 TZ-series travellers’ cameras

Panasonic has today shown off the seventh-generation of its TZ series of traveller-friendly digital cameras, with the Lumix DMC-TZ30 and Lumix DMC-TZ25.

The DMC-TZ30 is a 14.1-megapixel camera, with 24mm wide-angle lens, 24mm wide-angle lens, and a redesigned MOS sensor. It has built-in GPS functionality, adding location, latitude and longitude to the metadata of images. In addition to shooting stills, it also shoots high definition video (1920 x 1080/50p). The TZ30 also allows multiple methods of charging the battery – either by mains, or via a USB connection with a computer.

The second camera, the DMC-TZ25, is also a 12.1-megapixel high sensitivity MOS sensor, with 16x zoom and a 24 mm wide-angle lens. It too will shoot HD AVCHD video, recording at 1920 x 1080/50i.

Both cameras include setting to get you adding a little something extra to your shots, with HDR, Miniature Effect, Panorama Shot, Creative Retouch and Auto Retouch.

The DMC-TZ30 also has six effects that can be applied after you’ve taken the shot – Toy Effect, Soft Focus, Dynamic Monochrome, Expressive, High Key and Retro.

Price and availability

Both cameras will go on sale in April. The DMC-TZ30 has an RRP of $449, while the DMC-TZ25 will be $399. The DMC-TZ30 will be available in black, while the DMC-TZ25 will be offered in silver.
