Yesterday at 5 pm Australian time, camera enthusiasts around the world watched the streaming video unveiling of the Sony Alpha 7 range of mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. The excitement is based on the camera’s extensive feature set, particularly its 35mm full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor.
There are two cameras in the range, the 24 megapixel Alpha 7, and the 36 megapixel Alpha 7R, and are, at the time of writing, the “world’s smallest, lightest, interchangeable lens camera with a full-frame sensor”.

Price and availability
The Alpha 7 range will be available November, and will be sold in the following configurations:
- Alpha 7 body only – $1,999 RRP
- Alpha 7 with 28-70mm Sony lens – $2,199 RRP
- Alpha 7R body only: $2,499 RRP
Sony has also announced a new range of full-frame E-mount lenses to complement the Alpha R7:
- SEL35F28Z Sonnar T* FE 35mm F2.8 ZA – $999 RRP
- SEL55F18Z Sonnar T* FE 55mm F1.8 ZA – $1,299 RRP, available in 2014
- SEL2470Z: Vario-Tessar T* FE 24-70mm F4 ZA OSS – $1,499 RRP, available in 2014
- SEL2870: FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS – only available packaged with the Alpha R7
- SEL70200G: FE 70-200mm F4 G OSS – price TBA, available in 2014
