Sony Alpha NEX-6 compact system camera in hand

Hot on the heels of the recent NEX-5R announcement, Sony today released details of the Alpha NEX-6 compact system camera.

It’s a 16.1 megapixel interchangeable lens camera, that in addition to taking still shots it will shoot full HD video. Like the NEX-5R, the NEX-6 will have built-in Wi-Fi, electronic viewfinder, Fast Hybrid AF system, and a (growing) selection of downloadable camera apps – such as Picture Effect+; Bracket Pro; Multi Frame NR; Photo Retouch; Smart Remote Control and Direct Upload. The sensor is a Large Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor. The screen is a 7.5 inch Xtra Fine LCD Screen that can be angled approximately 90 degrees up or 45 degrees down.



The zoom story? Clear Image Zoom: approx. 2x (for still images) Smart Zoom: approx. 1.4x/2x (again, still images) Digital Zoom: approx. 4x (still images and video).

In-camera effects include Posterisation (Colour, B/W), Pop Colour, Retro Photo, Partial Colour (R,G,B,Y), High Contrast Monochrome, Toy Camera, Soft High-key, Soft Focus, HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, and Miniature.

Sony NEX-6 price and availability

The Sony NEX6 goes on sale in early November, with pricing as follows:

  • NEX-6 Camera Body Only – $1,099 RRP
  • NEX-6 Single Lens Kit with SELP1650 lens – $1,299 RRP
  • NEX-6 Twin Lens Kit with SELP1650 and SE55210 lenses – $1,599 RRP
