Sony is in a generous mood – or is righting the corporate ship – this week. Last week there was the long overdue price cut for the Sony PSPgo, and today the company announced a price reduction on the PlayTV.
In the year since the PlayTV went on sale Sony has sold 100,000, and to mark the occasion they have reduced the price by $20, so you can now pick up Sony Play TV for $149.95 RRP.
If you’re unfamiliar with the device, in essence the PlayTV box turns your PlayStation 3 into a personal video recorder. it has an in-built 7-day TV electronic program guide, and you can “watch one program while recording another and even record television at the same time as playing a game or watching a Blu-ray or downloaded movie”.
Later this month Sony are adding to the feature set of PlayTV, with the downloadable PlayTV Live Chat, allowing PlayStation 3 and PlayTV owners to text chat to one another. PlayTV Live Chat will sell via the online PlayStation Store.
