Here’s a small slice of cool computing tech due for release soon – the Toshiba libretto W100.

The libretto W100 is a dual 7 inch touchscreen device, that can be used just like a laptop, or used to view content in dual-screen mode, so that it resembles a book. Inside is an accelerometer, so the pages display in either portrait or landscape mode, depending upon how you are holding the device. You can see the way the content on the screen re-aligns in the pictures that accompany this article.

The screens can work as one, or separately, so you can be emailing on one, and watching a web video on the other.

The W100 is powered by Windows 7, and with the standard battery weighs less than 700 grams. You’ll get up to hours out of the standard battery, while with the optional bigger battery you’ll get up to 4 hours. This doesn’t sound much, indeed, it isn’t much, but that the price you pay for such a small device.

Shipping with the W100 is Toshiba’s Toshiba Bulletin Board. This program lets you combine various elements – text, pictures, calendar entries, etc – on the one screen, creating something like a project or scrapbook screen.
