Nikon 1 J5 mirrorless camera weeks from release

The Nikon 1 J5 mirrorless camera is soon to be in Australian stores, as announced just before the Easter break.

The 1 J5 is a 20.8 megapixel camera, with a back-illuminated CMOS sensor, EXPEED 5A image processing engine, and boasts at the time of writing the world’s fastest high-speed continuous shooting, 20 fps with continuous AF, or up to 60 fps with focus fixed at the first frame. In addition to shooting still, the J5 also shoots 4K video.

A first for the Nikon 1 Series is the addition of a tilting LCD screen, allowing more flexibility in shooting, including – God forbid – the ability to take selfies. Wi-Fi and NFC is included, though you’ll have to download an app to your smartphone or tablet to be able to share your images via the J5.

Built in to aid creativity are 14 effects for stills and movies (pop, retro, high-contrast monochrome, nostalgic sepia, HDR, easy panorama, soft, miniature effect, selective color, cross process, toy camera effect, cross screen, fisheye, skin softening), and 5 different scene modes (night landscape, night portrait, landscape, close-up, and portrait).

Colour choices for the J5 will be black, and white, as seen in the image gallery below.

Nikon 1 J5 price and availability

The Nikon 1 J5 will go on sale from April 23. Nikon doesn’t provide recommended retail prices, however I found an Australian online seller pricing the Nikon 1 J5 with 10-30mm VR Zoom Lens at $685.
