The Roth Audio CHARLiE is a speaker system for the iPod and iPhone, as well as other MP3, portable AV players and computers via the 3.5 mm speaker jack.
You have two configuration options with the CHARLiE. Firstly, as a 2.0 speaker system; that is the two speakers only. The second option is a 2.1 speaker system; the two speakers, plus a subwoofer.
Though they do power all those other devices, the Roth Audio CHARLiE is primarily designed with the iPhone and iPod Touch in mind. Why? Because the systems, both the 2.0 and the 2.1, ship with the RothDock, a wireless dock for the iPhone or iPod Touch, transmitting the signal for up to 10 metres. The RothDock is officially both a Made for iPod and Works with iPhone certified product, meaning that there is no need to adjust your iPhone‘s settings to airplane mode while in the dock.
Connectivity options with the Roth Audio CHARLiE are the wireless RothDock, the 3.5 mm speaker jack, or via USB.
The CHARLiE 2.0 uses an active monitor design, with a speaker cabinet-enclosed amplifier capable of pushing out 15 watts per channel. The CHARLiE 2.1 houses the electronics in the subwoofer, pushing 25 watts to drive each speaker – plus an additional 25 watts to power the sub itself.

Price and availability
The Roth Audio CHARLiE systems are expected to arrive in Australia in mid-May. The local distributors, MAXMEDIA will then show the system to resellers. It’s only after that something like a retail release date, and the price, can be announced.
What is certain, is that the entire range will arrive – both with and without the subwoofer, and in both the colours, black and white.
29 December, 2010: I’ve just had an email from the Australian distributors of Roth Audio regarding availability.
They advised “The Charlie 2.0 and 2.1 were a very late arrival due to some modifications and power supply matters, in fact they only became available to dealers from December 20.”
