With the 3 Speaker Boombox and the 2 Speaker Boombox, TDK have rebooted for the iPod age the big-ass portable music player, that takes the music from the private domain of headphones and shares it with the world. Debate amongst yourselves as to whether that’s an entirely good thing…
Both the 3 speaker model and the 2 speaker model allow connection via USB, 3.5 mm jack and auxiliary ports for connections to an iPod, iPhone, smartphone or USB flash drive. Users can also plug in a guitar or microphone and mix with other music sources.
On the front is a piano black finish and exposed speakers, and the Boombox is edged by an aluminium strip. The carry handle is metal, covered and softened by leather. iPods are not inserted into the unit, instead there is a recess on top of the unit to hold Apple’s music machines. Controls are a mix of touch-sensitive buttons and knobs, and in a This Is Spinal Tap homage, the volume knob goes up to 11.
TDK Boombox availability and price
The TDK Boombox was initially available online in the United States and Canada. Last month it became available in retail stores. There’s no word yet from TDK on wider availability.
